Lil Louis

Lil Louis (Louis Burns) is an internationally renowned artist, producer, DJ, songwriter and author.

Originally from Chicago, Louis began his career at 12 years old as a DJ, becoming one of the biggest DJs in the world. He is one of the founding fathers of House Music.he top selling dance artist of all time, has released two prior albums on Sony and Polygram “From the Mind of Lil Louis,” which featured the biggest selling dance song in history “French Kiss” (6 million copies) and “I Called You” and “Journey with the Lonely”, which contained the hits “Clu...b Lonely” and “Saved My Life.” He has produced and written/co-written for many prominent artists including Jay-Z, Lil Kim, Babyface, Meshell N’degeocello, GrooveTheory/ Amel Larieux, Donna Summers and Louie Vega, as well as produced for soundtracks including “Jason’s Lyrics” and “Woo”.

One of the most popular Chicago house producers during the late '80s thanks to his massive club hit "French Kiss," Lil' Louis was also the only Chicago producer to successfully deal with the major labels; he released two albums for Epic, and only left the label at his own instigation. Born in Chicago, Louis was the son of guitarist Bobby Sims, who recorded for Chess and appeared with the psychedelic-soul unit Rotary Connection. He grew up with nine siblings and played both drums and bass as a child, then began DJing in the mid-'70s (he earned his nickname after appearances at the club River's Edge while still in middle school). By the end of the decade he had his own club, the Future, where he began working on his editing techniques, thanks to a cassette deck and later a reel-to-reel recorder.

By the 1980s, Lil' Louis was hosting the biggest house parties in Chicago, and he began recording his productions around that time as well. His first single "How I Feel" appeared on his own label, and he began collaborating with Marshall Jefferson on several tracks -- "Seven Ways to Jack" by Hercules, Byron Stingily's "I Can't Stay Awake." In 1987, his new single "French Kiss" became a local hit, then a platinum-selling international classic after being licensed to CBS and ffrr. The success triggered a major-label contract through Epic, and the release of his debut album From the Mind of Lil' Louis in 1989. Charting a course across jazz-fusion and R&B as well as house, the LP was one of the best produced by any of the Chicago figures, and included session contributions from Larry Heard, Die Warzau and his own father on drums. From the album, the moody single "I Called U" became another club hit. His follow-up LP, the more stylistically unified Journey with the Lonely, didn't fare as well and Lil' Louis retired from recording for over four years, preferring instead to set up his own studio in New York and work on production with Babyface and Me'Shell NdegeOcello. He returned by collaborating with "Little" Louie Vega of Masters at Work and also worked on production for Black Magic.

Farley "Jackmaster" Funk

Farley Keith (born Farley Keith Williams, January 25, 1962, Chicago, Illinois) is a DJ and record producer of Chicago house music. He is notable for producing a number of tracks in the mid and late 1980s. He has recorded and performed under the aliases Farley Keith, Rude Boy Farley Keith, Farley Funkin' Keith and Farley Jackmaster Funk.

Farley got his start in the music industry in 1981 as a one of the original members of the Hot Mix 5, a DJ team at WBMX-FM 102.7 FM, Oak Park, Illinois (original members of Kenny "Jammin" Jason, Mickey "Mixin" Oliver, Scott "Smokin" Silz, Farley "Funkin" Keith and Ralphi "Rockin" Rosario). He was a guest DJ at The Warehouse nightclub, and was a resident DJ at The Playground, which later became The Candy Store and later La Mirage.
Farley began recording in 1983 with his debut single "Aw Shucks".
Farley created his first house music productions in 1984, including "Funkin with the Drums", on the House Records label. This track was what became a standard in Chicago house music, the "beat" track or "rhythm" track, a song composed with drums alone. In 1985, Farley's single "Jack the Bass" (along with Chip E's "Time to Jack") ushered in the popular "jacking" dance craze in Chicago house. Also influential in 1985 was "Funkin' with the Drums Again", followed in 1986 by "Give Yourself to Me" with vocals by Kevin "Jack N House" Irving and Darryl Pandy. These recordings were released through Trax Records label. His roommate at the time, Steve Hurley, had produced a cover of "I Can't Turn Around" by Isaac Hayes, which sold well in the Chicago area. Before Hurley could arrange to have the record licensed for overseas distribution, Farley managed to attach his own name to a European release of a slightly altered version of Hurley's track. The new version, "Love Can't Turn Around" by Farley "Jackmaster" Funk (vocals by Darryl Pandy), which reached #10 in the UK Singles Chart in 1986.
Farley also did some remixing and editing for DJ International Records in Chicago during this time, and he DJed and performed at many parties in the Chicago suburbs, helping to spread the music throughout the Chicago area.
Farley had several other follow-up hits during the late 1980s, including "Jack My Body", "Hey Norton", "The Trax U Lost", "It's You" with vocals by Ricky Dillard, and most notably, "House Nation", credited to House Master Boyz featuring the Rude Boy of House, which followed "Love Can't Turn Around" into the UK top ten.
In 1990, after becoming a born-again Christian, he grew tired of house music and began producing hip hop. However, he returned to house by the mid 1990s, and by the late 1990s began to enjoy a fair amount of success as a global touring DJ.
